To curb cyber fraud and online crime, the Indian government has taken a major decision, and the way WhatsApp is used is about to change. WhatsApp has started working on a ‘Sim Binding’ feature in India, according to which WhatsApp will not work unless there is an active SIM card in your phone.
Under current rules, once WhatsApp is registered, it can be used via Wi-Fi or another internet source even if the SIM card is not in the phone. However, after the new update, WhatsApp will only work on the phone where the registered SIM card is physically available. If you remove or change the SIM card from the phone, WhatsApp will automatically stop working.
This feature is currently being tested and will soon be mandatory for all Indian users, similar to UPI apps.
