Bihar New Electricity Rule: Daytime Power Cheaper, Evening Rates Higher

Bihar has introduced a new electricity billing system where power will be cheaper during the day and more expensive in the evening.

  • Electricity rates will now change according to the time of use.
  • Power will be cheaper during the daytime and costlier in the evening.
  • The new rule will first apply to smart prepaid meter users.
  • Consumers who use more electricity at night may see higher bills.

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a new Time-of-Day tariff system for consumers in Bihar. Under the new rule, electricity prices will no longer remain the same throughout the day.

According to the new tariff system, electricity will be cheaper during daytime hours because demand is lower. However, during evening peak hours, when most people use more electricity, the rates will become higher.

The rule is expected to be implemented first for smart prepaid meter users. Later, it may also be extended to consumers with larger electricity consumption.

The government says the new system is designed to encourage people to use more electricity during the day and reduce pressure on the power grid in the evening.
