Trump May End Iran War Without Reopening Strait of Hormuz

What did Donald Trump say about the Iran war?

Donald Trump has reportedly told his advisers that he may end the military campaign against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains mostly closed.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz important?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil routes. Around 20% of global oil and gas passes through this narrow waterway. If it stays closed, oil prices can rise sharply and many countries may face energy problems.

Why does Trump want to end the war without reopening the Strait?

According to reports, Trump and his team believe that fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz would take much longer and could extend the war beyond the administration’s planned four-to-six-week timeline. Instead, the United States now wants to weaken Iran’s navy and missile systems first.

What are the new US war goals?

The US reportedly wants to:

  • Damage Iran’s naval power
  • Reduce Iran’s missile stockpiles
  • Stop Iran from threatening ships in the future

After achieving these goals, the US may reduce military action even if commercial shipping has not fully returned to the Strait of Hormuz.

Will the Strait of Hormuz remain closed?

The Strait may remain partly closed for some time. Reports say Iran is still controlling or limiting ship movement in the area, although a few oil tankers have been allowed to pass.

How has this affected oil prices?

Oil prices have increased sharply because of fears that the Strait of Hormuz could remain closed. Brent crude briefly crossed $113 per barrel, while US crude moved above $102. Analysts say uncertainty will continue until normal shipping returns.
