The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is one of the most famous religious places in India. Located in Amritsar, Punjab, the temple is known for its stunning golden appearance and deep spiritual importance in Sikhism.
According to reports, the Golden Temple is covered with nearly 750 kilograms of real gold. At current Indian gold prices, this gold is estimated to be worth around ₹1,083 crore. The temple received its golden covering during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th century.
Many people are surprised to know that the temple was not always covered in gold. Initially, only a smaller amount of gold was used, but over time, more gold was added during repairs and renovations. Today, the upper floors and dome of the temple shine with gold plating, making it one of the most beautiful monuments in the world.
