Google to Invest $15 Billion in Massive Data Center Hub Near Visakhapatnam

Google is set to make one of its biggest investments in India by building a massive AI and data center hub near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The project is expected to involve an investment of around $15 billion and will become Google’s largest data center initiative outside the United States.

The proposed facility will have a capacity of 1 gigawatt and will be spread across more than 600 acres at three locations near Visakhapatnam, including Adavivaram, Tarluvada and Rambilli. The project is expected to officially begin on April 28, 2026.

Google plans to develop the project in partnership with Adani and Airtel. The company said the hub will include large-scale data centers, an AI innovation campus, new fiber-optic infrastructure and a major subsea cable landing station on India’s east coast.

The Visakhapatnam project is expected to create more than one lakh jobs directly and indirectly. Google believes the new AI hub will help India become a major center for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital infrastructure by 2028.

According to reports, the three data center campuses are expected to be operational by July 2028. The project will also include clean energy systems, new transmission lines and international submarine cables to improve internet connectivity across India.

The Andhra Pradesh government has described the project as one of the biggest foreign direct investments ever made in India. Officials believe it will transform Visakhapatnam into a major technology and AI hub in Asia.
