India Sends 4.8 Crore Litres of Petrol and Diesel to Sri Lanka

India has sent nearly 4.8 crore litres of petrol and diesel to Sri Lanka as emergency support to help the country deal with a sudden fuel shortage.

India has dispatched around 38,000 metric tonnes of fuel to Sri Lanka after the island nation faced disruptions in its regular fuel supply. The shipment includes approximately 20,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 18,000 metric tonnes of petrol, equal to nearly 4.8 crore litres of fuel.

The emergency assistance came after discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The fuel shipment is being delivered through Indian Oil Corporation’s Sri Lankan unit, Lanka IOC, and is expected to arrive in Colombo Harbour.

Sri Lanka requested urgent help after the ongoing conflict in West Asia disrupted shipping routes and fuel supplies. Due to the shortage, the country had already introduced fuel rationing and several emergency measures to reduce consumption.

The move highlights India’s role in supporting neighbouring countries during times of crisis. Officials in Sri Lanka have said the additional fuel supply will help maintain transport, electricity generation and essential services until regular imports resume.
