Electricity in Uttar Pradesh is expected to become cheaper with the commissioning of the Mirzapur Thermal Energy Power Plant, being developed by the Adani Group. The 1,500 MW project is likely to reduce power generation costs, offering relief to consumers across the state.
According to reports, the developer decided not to install a Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) unit at the plant, following regulatory approvals. This move is expected to save nearly ₹270 crore, significantly reducing the overall project cost. Lower capital expenditure directly impacts electricity tariffs, making power supply more affordable.
The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved the power supply agreement for the Mirzapur Thermal Energy Project under the bidding route. The tariff has been finalized at ₹5.38 per unit, which is considered competitive compared to existing thermal power rates.
The state cabinet has already approved the project, and electricity from this plant is expected to be supplied to Uttar Pradesh until 2031. Experts believe the project will help stabilize power availability, reduce dependency on expensive sources, and support industrial and economic growth in the region.
