The Defence Acquisition Council led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved defence projects worth ₹2.38 lakh crore. The new package includes missiles, drones, transport aircraft and upgrades for existing fighter jets.
India will purchase additional S-400 Triumf air defence systems to improve its protection against enemy aircraft and missiles. The country will also buy modern drones that can be used for surveillance and attacks during military operations.
The Air Force’s Su-30MKI fighter jets will receive major upgrades and engine overhauls, helping them remain effective for many more years. The Army is also expected to receive new artillery guns, ammunition and surveillance equipment.
Officials say the defence package is one of the biggest military modernisation plans in recent years and is designed to make India better prepared for modern warfare.
