Delhi Government Bans Students and Teachers From Making Reels in Schools

The Delhi government has issued a new order banning students, teachers, and school staff from creating reels or short videos during school hours in schools across the city.

According to the Directorate of Education (DoE), the move has been taken to ensure that studies, discipline, and the dignity of schools are not affected by social media activities. Officials said that making reels and entertainment videos inside classrooms and school premises was distracting students from learning.

The Education Department has instructed all school heads to strictly stop such activities during class hours. The order applies to students, teachers, and other staff members inside school premises. Any activity that disturbs teaching or creates a distraction in school will not be allowed.

However, the government has clarified that it is not a complete ban on all video recording in schools. Schools can still make videos related to academics, cultural programmes, awareness campaigns, or educational activities. But such videos can only be made after getting prior approval from the school authorities and under the supervision of a teacher.

The government has also said that while creating any approved content, schools must make sure that there is no disruption to classes and that the privacy and safety of students are protected. Promotional, inappropriate, or non-academic videos will not be allowed inside school campuses.

The order comes at a time when several cases of students and teachers making social media reels during school hours have been reported in different parts of North India. Education officials believe the new rule will help bring the focus back to studies and classroom discipline.
